How to import an Anki deck, and export back to Anki

Yes. Anki exports a deck as an .apkg package; Flashcards.gg reads both the older and the current package format and turns each note into a card with a front and a back. Your sets can also be exported as .apkg, so nothing is locked in either direction.

Step by step

  1. Export the deck from Anki

    On the desktop app: File, Export, format "Anki Deck Package (.apkg)", pick the deck. On AnkiDroid: the deck menu, Export. You get one .apkg file.

  2. Open the file in Flashcards.gg

    On a phone, open the .apkg with the app, or use Import in the app and pick the file. In the browser, Import works the same way.

  3. Check the preview

    The first cards are shown before anything is saved, with the card count. Confirm to import.

  4. Export back when you want to

    Any set exports as an Anki package from the set page: Export, Anki package. Drop the file into Anki or AnkiDroid.

Import accepts .apkg, CSV, TSV, TXT and JSON. Card text is imported; Anki review history and media files are not. Sets you import study with spaced repetition like any other set and can be shared or added to folders.
